So much of this operation was built in secret, but once Lockhart and Saul started to tussle and the latter had to show his hand to Higgins as a way to keep Lockhart from biting at his heels, the stakes grew so much higher for Saul. Lockhart and Higgins' involvement here didn't have any real influence on what happened in the field with Brody, but their presence did make it that much more important for the operation to succeed. If the operation failed, Saul's swan song is over and his 'old school' methods are kicked out the door with him. But it succeeded. What that means for Saul's job and how the CIA moves forward remains to be seen, but "Good Night" nicely brought some of those season-long concerns and conversations to the forefront, amid all the operation's action.
